#28 – gARY from nEWERA bREWING
We’re chatting to Gary from Newera Brewing, a supplier of home brew to professional brewing gear. In fact, most of the stuff that Gary sells is for the serious home brewer, with many of the items he has able to be ramped up to be used in professional settings, and a lot do! As most home brewers start out with a kit and kilo approach, Newera’s equipment is designed more for the brewer to better control the beers environment. Lots of stainless, lots of volume, lots of fun. Let’s jump in!
One of the most popular units that Gary moves is the SS Brewtech Unitanks. It’s essentially just a smaller version of the same systems that run in your favourite local brewery. They use stainless fittings with tri-clover clamps that can easily be hooked into any professional system. There’s literally nothing that this cannot do that your big brewer down the road is doing. If you’re a serious home brewer, this is the sort of equipment that you want to aim for.
“And the glycol or the heat pad will turn on or off”
It’s not all big and fancy unitanks on offer though, Gary, still has the brew buckets on offer, but of course, they’re stainless too! If you’re a home brewer and you’re using plastic, you need to replace them often and if they get scratched it’s a place where micro can grow and ruin your beer. Stainless doesn’t have that issue and offers easier clean up as well. Coming in multiple sizes, brew buckets are stackable, and offer you a size that you can split batches to test out different hops and yeast combos on the same wort stream.

Gary from Newera Brewing
It’s not just the SS Brewtech fermenters that Gary has here at Newera, he also has a massive love for and support for everything from starting your brew day off too. The SS Brewtech mill works a treat and easily mills the grain to whatever you choose using the mill gap adjustment.
It would be all fun and games if that was it, but no. We want to brew the beer as well!
Some of the other fun items Newera supply is Brewtools. They also supply unitanks, and they have full on pro brewing systems. This is where the mashing, lauter, boil and whirlpool can all happen. And in big volumes. The Brewtools equipment use a 4-way and 3-way valve system to move the wort as you brew to where you need it to go. These brewing systems are not for the faint of heart, it makes a lot of beer. If you’re wanting these, you’re serious about your beer and want to make sure you have the mates to drink it. Or just buy one to use in your professionla brewery as a pilot kit!
You can’t have all of the hot side without talking about chilling the wort. The fermenters do their thing, but if you want to control that temperature, you want a chiller. This chills liquid, water / glycol mix, and holds the temp for the fermenter. It’s not just used for chilling the fermenters though, you can use this to chill the wort before you send it to the fermenter for pitching.
Gary’s equipment is the top end of the home brewer marketplace, but for good reason. It’s high quality equipment that last for a long time, and comes complete with Gary’s after sales support and service, which is important for home brewers stepping up to this. But you make better beer!
Gary from Newera also does a lot of social brewing with BABBS home brew club, and has been heavily involved with the ANHC, Australian National Homebrewing Conference. It’s something that Gary loves to be involved in. It’s for the serious home brewer, exactly like Gary from Newera Brewing.

#31 - beermuda 2024This episode is a similar take to 2023's GABS Festival, where we roamed around a festival and poor Joel had to deal with more and more of Adsy's antics as he consumed more beer. Thankfully there were only 4 breweries, but that meant 4 short bus...

Thanks to Gary for opening up his shed on a Saturday morning for us to get in there, have a chat and a few beers. As a home brewer, Adsy was in his element and loving it! If you’re ready to take the next step, check out Newera! Also, quick thanks to Madocke for the beers we drank during this episode.
We love our amazing sponsors Bintani, Konvoy Kegs, Craft Punks Canning, Rallings Labels and CRAFTD. Glass once again, our thanks. As industry people supporting the little guys like us, it’s invaluable what they do for the industry, but also in support of us.
A special thanks also to both Amber Hour App for giving us use of their app, and Beers Illustrated for providing us with our awesome logos and continual support when we accidently delete them! And it goes without saying, thanks to Hiker Brewing Concern for giving us excellent beer many times a week, and letting run amock in their brewery more times per week than anywhere else.
And special thanks to you, our fans who may have watched or listened to this episode. Essentially, you’re the reason we’re doing this and it makes a world of difference. We could do it without you, but it wouldn’t be as fun and probably not as worthwhile.
